Thank You Moms

Thanks to the mothers who brought food for the Feb. 3-4 weekend in Alexandria.

Chili Extravaganza

Man-chefs Tom Kerber and Tim Siemers took two of three awards at the Pee Wee A Black Chili Competition Jan. 13 at the Kissner home in southeast St. Cloud. Brenda Schermerhorn's scintillating white chili was also honored. Nine crock pots competed in a two votes per participant blind evaluation. The chili was complimented by an array of side dishes, including Wendy Siemers' taco salad and Alice Lenzmeier's cold-dough artisan bread.

Concussions Are Serious Business

For teenage athletes, even mild concussions can cause memory problems lasting up to a week. The first study of its kind evaluates the effects of, and recovery from, mild head injuries in high school sports. View the full story on WebMD.com.

Guitar Slingin' Nick Sparby

Check out Coach Nick Sparby's tunes on YouTube. If the hockey thing doesn't work out Nick can audition for "American Idol."

Love Those Protein Power Balls

Terri Kerber says the Protein Power Balls are a hit with her daughter's Icebreakers hockey team. Three batches later the team has a recipe link on its Web site so other moms can take their turns making the sweet-but-nutritious treats. Visit Momsville's Recipes area for more taste-tested concoctions.

Tim and Wendy Siemers offer an adult-hot Cajun Shrimp recipe that is guaranteed to make light up your palate.
